Task 8


            Sustainable design is defined as the philosophy of designing physical objects, the built environment, and services to comply with the principles of social, economic, and ecological sustainability. it basically is the act of thinking creatively with the purpose of making products that will sustain the test of time with the smallest environmental impact possible. Its become widely popular within the past twenty five years and is used to create products as big as opera houses, to butter knives . In my opinion sustainable design as a philosophy should be in the forefront of every advertiser, artist and designer . 
          






           Making products more efficient first is the most logical thing to do. When it is done correctly it creates a world with less waste, more money that you save on energy and, overall a great product to have. As more businesses are known to hire people who can think creatively . Even packaging of products like electronics has changed for the better in the past ten years. 




           Creating less waste and creating a more stimulating experience when youre unwrapping your new favorite thing. This trend is also spreading over to advertisers. The Internet helped do this by putting the advertising into the hands of the consumers. These days anyone who is buying something is researching it at home first, then either buying it online, or going to a store just so they can have the instant gratification nh having it in hand that day. Which in turn is turning floor salesmen into an annoyance, and commercials into whatever else is on. As businesses cant compete with what they say is a better product, they realize they have to actually make it into a better product. Which is sustainable design at its best, making one product that can work with any other product, while not hurting the environment.

Task 7




Advertising aims to attract a viewer towards a product through various means. The recent ad for the Ghd IV Styler flat iron uses sexual images and a provocative association with the Lord’s Prayer in order to grab attention and more sales for their product. While not all advertisements intend to sell a product, they all grab attention  in order to influence their thought and or action. We see this in billboards, such as a large, roadside MacDonald’s advertisement with a juicy hamburger next to the words “Beefy, Juicy, Hungry.” The advertiser hopes to convince you to stop and eat at the restaurant. 





Also political advertisements induce action through influencing thought. While they do not aim to sell a product, they often urge viewers to vote for someone or agree with a particular political stance.




            In addition to the definition and purpose of advertising, we should consider the ethics of advertising. What is proper and improper? How should we advertise? Who has authority to govern such practices? The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) claims to defend “legal, decent, honest and truthful” advertising. This sounds agreeable and even noble. However, we will soon discover that more clarity is required.
            The mission of the ASA uses subjective terms that require interpretation. For example, what constitutes “decent” advertising? Some people would claim that nude women would be indecent, if they appeared on a billboard. As a matter of fact, the majority of society would probably have some issue with this, and the ASA would probably attempts to advertise with nude women. On the other hand, I come from Muslim Arab background, where women showing even a bit of skin is considered offensive to many. What many Americans would consider conservative, such as a women dressed in a mid-length, strapless dress would appear indecent to many with my cultural background. The point is, what defines decent and indecent advertising practice? The ASA needs to elaborate.






            The Ghd IV Styler advertisement demonstrates the same principle. As a Muslim, I am very sensitive to religious statements in the media. So when I hear the Lord’s prayer in a hair ad alongside a sexual image, I become offended or at least sympathize with those of other religions that may be offended to a greater extent. One problem is the matter of truth. As the ASA intends to uphold “truthful” advertising, I find that associating certain religious concepts with marketing distorts the truth. The Muslim faith is not intended to sell a product. While there are beliefs to spread and products associated with my religion, advocating for sales by means of religious ideas seems dishonest. It is not true to the original and sacred sense of the religion. religious material may offend some people and, in my view, should be used minimally.

Task 6 "Product packaging"





Packaging design is important in marketing terms. This essential marketing component greatly influences customers and buyers on one product over another. Colorful, creative and insightful designs on packages definitely impact our minds and that is how marketers often induce us to make irrational buying choices (based on our feelings and taste) rather than well-thought ones. That is why the role of packaging design has such strategic significance in marketing and sales and is even more important than we could ever think.


In times of booming globalization and market competition, to win more competitive advantages over rivals, top players creatively develop effective packaging designs that exclude standard approaches to the idea of conventional packaging. Packaging has become important means to show the unique qualities and features of a product. Namely owing to the art of packaging design some products stand out from the rest. A product is what we consume, while packaging is what inspires us to buy a product.







The role of a good packaging designer is really important. First of all the approach to packaging should be ultimately creative. The messages should work with the colors, signs, logos and other unique features of a product. Furthermore, packaging designer should monitor the market for similar products and offered designs to come up with something unique, impressive, and inspirational. Finally, it is worthy to note that the products of less quality and less marketed brands can be effectively sold owing to the creative marketing and packaging.
